If you cook at home in the U.S. and want to dry a lot of leafy greens at once, a salad spinner is worth considering. The white OXO Good Grips model works by pressing a knob on top to spin it. Before buying it just because it looks handy, check the basket capacity and where you will store it — that makes it easier to judge whether you will keep using it in your own kitchen.

This page is a buying guide that organizes the manufacturer’s official specifications. It is not a review based on our editors or operator buying and using the product, and we have not measured drying time or durability ourselves.

Don’t confuse the 6.22 qt bowl with the 4.95 qt basket

Don’t treat the large capacity in the product name as the amount of greens you can put in. The bowl and the basket have different capacities, and the actual amount also depends on the type of vegetables and how tightly you pack them. On the shopping page, be careful not to mix it up with the smaller, glass or stainless-steel models that have similar names.

Ease of use, based on the specs

OXO describes a design where you press the knob to spin and stop it with a brake, a basket that doubles as a colander, and a lid that comes apart. If you want to spin with one hand, or want one tool for both washing and drying, you can use these features to compare.

On the other hand, pressing the knob will not leave every ingredient in the same condition. We have not measured how much water remains or how it affects delicate leaves, so we do not claim that it “dries completely” or “keeps greens fresh for days.” For washing and storing food, follow the instructions on the product label.

Three things to measure for storage

  1. Whether the roughly 10.5-inch-square body fits the depth and width of your shelf.
  2. Whether you have 6 inches of height, including the lid.
  3. Whether you can set the bowl and basket down separately at the sink or drying area.

Even a useful tool tends to get used less if you have to dig it out from the back of a shelf every time. Our editors’ approach is to decide where it will go first, together with how many vegetables you buy and how often you cook. If you mostly cook small single portions, don’t choose it for its large capacity alone — compare its dimensions with smaller models too.

Care, and what to check when you buy

The official listing says it is dishwasher safe and that the lid comes apart for washing. For actual placement and washing conditions, follow the instructions that come with the product you receive. Don’t rely on instructions for a different model — check how to take the lid apart and put it back together.

On Amazon US, check the color, size, seller and return policy. Prices and stock change, so this article does not list a fixed discount or the lowest price. If the product specs on the listing have changed, compare the model number and capacity with the manufacturer’s information.

How to decide

It is worth comparing if you often prep leafy greens and have space to dry it after washing and to store it. On the other hand, if you would rarely use it, have small shelves, or already own a tool for the same job, you may want to reconsider whether you need it before buying. Use three things to decide: when you will use it, where it will go, and how you will wash it.
