When buying kitchen goods in the U.S., it is easier to choose if you think separately about “what you want to make easier” and “whether you can keep it in your kitchen and keep using it.” In this article, we look at an OXO measuring cup that makes measuring liquids easier, and a U.S.-spec Zojirushi rice cooker you can use for cooking Japanese rice.
This article is a pre-purchase guide based on the manufacturers’ published specifications. It organizes the features and the points to check when buying, from the perspective of home cooking while living in the U.S. Prices, stock, sellers and warranty terms change, so please check each sales page at the time of purchase.

Quick reference by use
| Product | Use covered | Features confirmed in the official specs | What to check before buying |

This is not a comparison of two products that do the same job. Someone who already has a good enough rice cooker and someone looking for a tool to measure liquids need different purchases. Use whether it fits a task you currently find inconvenient in your kitchen as your guide.
OXO 2-Cup Angled Measuring Cup: a measuring cup you read from above
Features based on the official specs
The OXO Good Grips 2-Cup Angled Measuring Cup has angled markings inside that you can read from above. The manufacturer describes cup, ounce and milliliter markings and a non-slip handle. The capacity is 2 cups.
If you want to cut down on lifting the cup or lowering your eyes to the markings on the side when adjusting the amount of liquid, this is a product whose design is worth checking. How easy it actually is to read also depends on the lighting where you use it and on the liquid, so look at both the top markings and the side markings in the photos.
Care and storage points to check
The manufacturer’s product description says the material is Tritan Renew plastic and that it can be washed on the top rack of a dishwasher. Don’t rely only on the short “Dishwasher Safe” label on the product page; check the cleaning conditions in the product description as well.
The officially listed exterior dimensions are 7 × 4 × 4 inches. When storing it, it is easier to estimate the space you need if you think of it as a shape with a handle and a spout, not just the cup body. If you already use a measuring cup, decide on one thing that adding a new product would change before you compare.
If you often handle large amounts of liquid at once, check whether 2 cups suits the amounts you cook. Products with different capacities and other lines such as SoftWorks may appear in the same search results, so the key is to confirm that the product name includes “Good Grips,” “2-Cup” and “Angled.”

Zojirushi NS-ZCC10: a U.S.-spec Neuro Fuzzy rice cooker
Read the capacity as uncooked rice measured with the included cup
Zojirushi’s official U.S. page lists the NS-ZCC10’s capacity as up to 5.5 cups / 1.0 L. This “cup” is a rice measuring cup of about 180 mL, and the capacity is based on uncooked short-grain white rice. It does not mean 5.5 servings of cooked rice.
Rather than deciding on capacity based only on the number of people in your family, it is easier to choose if you also consider how much rice you want to cook at one time, whether you usually freeze rice, and where you will put the cooker. Mixed rice (takikomi gohan) and other types of grains may have different capacities, so check the menu-specific conditions in the instruction manual.
Keep warm, timer and installation space
The official specs list regular keep warm, extended keep warm, reheat, two preset timer settings and a retractable power cord. Menus such as white rice texture settings and brown rice are also listed. Check whether the features you need fit the way you will use it every day.
The NS-ZCC10’s official electrical specs are 120 V / 680 W, and its exterior dimensions are 10-1/8 in. W × 13 in. D × 8-1/8 in. H. When setting it up, check not only that the body fits but also that there is room to open the lid and that the surrounding conditions specified in the manual are met. It is important not to confuse its power specs with those of models for the Japanese domestic market that have similar product names.
The NS-ZCC18 is a different model with a different capacity, power rating and dimensions. Search results or a single product page may switch between options, so check the selected model number once more right before you buy.

Don’t assume “1 cup” is always the same amount
One reason we present these two products together is that it helps clarify the difference between a cooking measuring cup and the rice cup that comes with a rice cooker. Even when an English recipe or product description says “cup,” it does not necessarily mean the same thing as a rice cooker’s rice cup.
The NS-ZCC10’s capacity description is based on a rice cup of about 180 mL. When measuring rice, use the included accessory and the standard in the manual; for liquids and cooking recipes, check the unit specified. With a tool like the OXO cup that also has mL markings, if a recipe specifies mL, you can check the amount by looking at those markings.
When buying new cooking tools, recording the capacity of the tools you already have in photos or notes helps you avoid choosing based only on the numbers in product names. “2-Cup” and “5.5-Cup” cannot be compared as capacities on the same standard just by which number is larger.
What to check before buying on Amazon US
- Model number and capacity: Check the selected size, color and model, not just the title.
- Seller and shipper: Check the brand name shown separately from the actual seller and shipper.
- Condition, such as new or used: Purchase terms can differ even on the same product page, so check the selected condition.
- Returns and warranty: Read the terms for the seller you buy from and for your region. Don’t assume they are the same as when buying directly from the manufacturer.
- Shipping and total cost: Check what is shown at the time of purchase, including the delivery address, shipping fees and tax. Also check separately whether delivery to Hawaii or Alaska is available.
Prices and discounts shown on sales pages change over time. When comparing, make sure you are looking at the total at that moment and at the same model number and capacity. It helps not to decide something is a good deal based only on past prices.
Things worth recording once you start using them
To look back later on whether a tool suited you, it is easier to compare if you keep a record of the purchase date, the model number and how you usually use it. For a measuring cup: how easy the markings are to read, how easily it pours, and how you dry it after washing. For a rice cooker: how much you usually cook, the menus you use, how long you keep rice warm, your cleaning routine and so on.
If your family uses it too, don’t leave it so that only you know how to operate it; sharing the measuring standard and which parts need washing makes it easier to keep using. If you also factor in the effort it takes to get used to it, you can avoid judging a product only by its number of features.

Summary
With handy kitchen gadgets, it is easier to choose by checking whether they fit your daily tasks than by adding more features that sound convenient. For the OXO, check the measuring markings; for the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10, check the rice-cup standard, the capacity and the U.S. specs, and consider where you will put them and how you will care for them as well.
